J's New Room

The Problem: J's room is huge. The little toddler bed looks lost in the corner. I can't put anything else in the room, though, if I want there to be any chance of him staying in his bed.

The Solution: Divide the room into two. J's bedroom and the play room. I built two bookshelves as room dividers with a gate between them. I think it turned out nicely. We still need to finish washing the paste off the wall and paint them.

Mow received a bicycle from her grandparents for her birthday. She's pretty good at riding it.





Road rage may be an issue though.

Meanwhile, J seems to be pondering running away from home.

Attic Adventures

We've been hearing noises coming from our attic since we moved in. We figured we had some sort of squirrel up there. So we set a trap. And caught 2 squirrels which we then had to dispose of. A rather unpleasant business. A third squirrel escaped. After inspecting the attic we also discovered that at some point, our attic was home to a much large animal like a raccoon or a possum. We've, hopefully, patched up the entrance the animals had been using and are rid of the problem. I thought about posting a picture of one of our caged squirrels but decided to skip that.

Lesson on Electricity

We had a terrific storm last night. Because of the angle of the pounding rain water came in under our garage door necessitating a rush to move all my boxes of books to a new location in the garage. During that time the lights flickered, went on and off a few times, then brightened and dimmed accompanied by fwump Fwwwumm whump. About that point, we decided to shut off all our power.

While Seth was upstair checking on computers, he happened to notice flashing and a red glow coming from the direction of the power lines behind our house. Lots of fun. In the end nothing was damaged, there were no fires and our power went back on an hour later when the storm calmed down.

While we were without power, though, M got a lesson on electricity. It was just about bedtime and she wanted us to turn on her bedroom light, or at least her night light. Of course, we couldn't comply. After she calmed down, we talked about things that need electricity to function. The list was really rather long. After a while she asked if the water needed electricity. Not the cold water but the hot water does. Books, the play house and toy cars didn't. And while her light did, going to sleep really didn't require electricity. I don't think she believed me.
